The Tokyo Kokei Sekken is our modern interpretation of Bob Simmons' revolutionary planing hull, blended with a contemporary Twinzer fin system to create one of the fastest, most engaging alternative surfboards we've ever produced.
The Kokei Sekken suits a surprisingly wide range of surfers. It isn't a beginner's board, but if you're already comfortable linking top and bottom turns, its incredible glide and effortless speed will feel almost like stepping onto a mid-length, giving you the confidence to push your surfing further.
For more advanced surfers, this board truly comes alive. The acceleration is addictive, generating speed almost effortlessly while remaining incredibly playful under your feet. What surprises most riders is the amount of rail grip. At a time when surfing on rail seems to be becoming a dying art, the Twinzer setup rewards committed turns with staggering hold and drive through long carving arcs.
The Kokei Sekken feels equally at home trimming across glassy walls at Putsborough as it does carving through chest-high Croyde peaks. When the surf becomes more powerful, simply switch to the quad setup to unlock even more down-the-line speed, hold and control.

Design Philosophy:
We've always loved the incredible speed and wave-catching ability of traditional Mini Simmons shapes, but we also knew they had limitations. Once the waves became steeper or more critical, many would begin to feel loose and reluctant to stay engaged through longer rail turns.
The Kokei Sekken was designed to keep everything we loved about the Simmons concept—speed, glide and effortless fun—while adding the grip, drive and confidence to surf the board harder and across a much wider range of conditions.
Unlike many traditional Mini Simmons designs, the Kokei Sekken remains composed and engaged throughout long, committed rail turns without sacrificing the explosive acceleration and effortless speed the design is famous for.

Construction: Individually hand-shaped in Britain
Glass Schedule: Double 4oz deck / Single 4oz bottom using premium S-Glass cloth, chosen to deliver exceptional strength while maintaining the lively flex characteristics that make the Kokei Sekken feel so responsive underfoot.
Recommended Fin Setup: Twinzer for everyday performance. Quad for larger, faster or more powerful surf.

Designer's Notes:
The Kokei Sekken started with a simple question.
Could we keep everything we loved about a traditional Mini Simmons while creating a board that encouraged committed rail surfing in better quality waves?
The answer became one of the most versatile alternative surfboards we've ever developed.
Fast enough to make average waves feel exciting, forgiving enough to increase wave count, yet capable of genuine performance once pushed onto rail, the Kokei Sekken has become a favourite amongst surfers looking for something different from the conventional shortboard.
Rather than chasing the latest trends, the Kokei Sekken celebrates the simple pleasure of generating effortless speed, drawing clean lines and reminding us why alternative surfcraft continues to fascinate us.
 
Ideal Conditions:
 
Wave Size: Waist-high to overhead.
Wave Type: Beach breaks, reefs and points with enough wall to allow the board to generate and maintain speed.
Skill Level: Intermediate to Advanced.
Best For: Surfers looking to maximise wave count without sacrificing performance, flow or manoeuvrability.
Not Designed For: Complete beginners or surfers wanting a high-rockered, competition-style shortboard.
